What can you do with an old fur garment?
This article will change the way you perceive your old furcoat. The durability of fur is a well proven fact. To quote one of our customers: “One grows bored with a fur garment long before it starts showing it’s age”. Taking into account the price which is payed for such an item, it is well worth updating the cut when this happens. This enables the wearer to enjoy their purchase for as long as possible. At Pelsland we offer three possible ways of breathing new life into an old furcoat and prolonging your love affair with luxury.
Solution 1: remodelling the coat.
Most types of fur allow for a totally new cut to be created from an outdated model. Choose a model from our showroom which you feel comfortable and fabulous in. In most cases a free estimate is generated for you on the spot and does not entail any commitment on your part. This method ensures a finished product which meets the customers needs and expectations as both the pelts as the cut are tried and tested beforehand.
Your garment is taken appart by our furrier in the workshop. The pelts are then reworked and put back together by hand, following the pattern of the model of your choice. A few weeks later, your fur has been given a new lease on life and is ready for a fitting.
Sometimes we start by making a trial cut out of canvas so that small alterations can be made before work is started using the pelts. These preliminary fittings are ofcourse included in the initial estimate.
This kind of refit is a common practice among fur lovers. A few requests such as these are made by our customers on a weekly basis.
This type of alteration is not recommended in every case. Garments which would cost between 1000 and 1500 at retail today are not worth remodelling from a financial point of view. In such cases we would recommend choosing a new coat from our showroom unless there is an emotional value at play.

Solution 3
A few of our customers come in with a coat which they find too heavy to wear comfortably. This can happen with pelts of over 20 years of age. Tanning methods have drastically improved since, eliminating this problem all together. However older furs can be reworked by us, to form a beautiful plaid. We can not eliminate the extra weight which the pelts have amassed, but in this way, we can preserve the soft and luxurious feel of the pelts for you to enjoy in your home. A fur plaid is the perfect complement to your bedroom or sofa. Perfect for a rainy sunday afternoon.
